Peter Braesicke will visit AWI on the 18-19 October 2017

Peter Braesicke, Professor in Climatology at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) and co-leader of ESM WP3: Frontier Simulations, will visit the Alfred-Wegener-Institute (AWI) in Bremerhaven on the 18-19 October 2017. The visit will be hosted by the Climate Dynamics section led by Thomas Jung and will be an opportunity to catch up with Peter’s research as well as to discuss the latest scientific results with the research groups in climate dynamics at AWI.

Peter’s main scientific interest is in the area of composition-climate interactions in which he has worked extensively since 1999 at the University of Cambridge and since 2013 at KIT supporting the model development of the UK‘s chemistry and aerosol model (UKCA) and investigating ozone variability and trends, and the development of the summer monsoon in India and its role of the composition of the lower stratosphere.

Within his visit to AWI, Peter will deliver a lecture on “Climate sensitivity: Does stratospheric ozone matter?” where he will discuss how climate sensitivity is an important metric to characterise Earth system models (ESMs), the role of stratospheric ozone for climate and how it is represented in ESMs.

In addition to delivering the lecture, Peter will also meet with various teams at AWI, to discuss the latest research findings and model developments.
