Online Meeting of ESM WP2 "Data Assimilation" on July 1, 2020

Members of ESM WP2 "Data Assimilation" met on July 1, 2020 for an update on research activities, review of tasks and discussions on further strategy. Due to the travel restrictions caused by Covid-19, the meeting was held online. In five presentations from the different centers the current research was presented. In particular, Reyko Schachtschneider, GFZ, presented work on data assimilation for a glacial isostatic adjustment model; Wei Chen, HZG talked about the impacts of assimilating satellite sea surface temperature on estimates of the volume and heat budgets of the North Sea;Qi Tang, AWI presented work on strongly coupled data assimilation in AWI-CM. Further, Harrie-Jan Hendricks-Franssen, FZJ, discussed the different data developements at the IBG3 department. Finally, Lars Nerger, AWI, presented the newly developed Observation Module Infrastructure (OMI) that simplifies the implementation of observations for PDAF. Discussing the progress in the project, the tasks were found to be on track. Future developments beyond the end of the year 2020 will be, however, depending on funding from the different centers due to the ending of the ESM project in December.
