The first set of ESM-Tools developed at AWI as part of the ESM project has been released on the 6 September 2018 and presented at the project General Assembly 2018 (12-14 September 2018 at UFZ in Leipzig) by lead developers Dirk Barbi and Nadine Wieters.
ESM-Tools is a software product to unify model infrastructure, giving a common framework for downloading, compiling, running and organizing coupled or standalone models. The set currently includes three tools:
· esm-master: Makefile-based tool to download, configure and compile the models
· esm-environment: Machine-dependant settings for compiling and running of models, all collected in one place.
· esm-runscripts: Collection of functions enabling to use short and concise runscripts, practically identical independent of machine or even model. The underlying functions organize the whole experiment, including copying of data, modifying of namelists, sanity checks, iterative coupling, and much more.
The first release includes full documentation to install and run the scripts and a Wiki page for uses and developers. More information on the ESM-Tools along with documents and information materials including the release presentation can be found on the ESM-Tools website at: http://www.esm-tools.net/
